Relationships between health promoting lifestyle and anxiety level among female family members of patient with breast neoplasms

Abstract
Purpose: This study was to investigated the relationships about the anxiety level and the health promotion lifestyle among female family members of patient with breast neoplasms.

Methods: The data were collected from February 10, to April 13, 2014. The sample consisted of 111 participants from the one university hospital in Seoul. The anxiety was measured by STAI (State-Trait Anxiety Inventory), lifestyle health promotion was measured by HPLP (Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile). The data were analysed using SPSS 21.0 program using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test. and Pearson`s correlation coefficients.

Results: Anxiety level was 2.36(¡¾0.59) and health promoting lifestyle score was 111.30(¡¾20.87). Anxiety level was significantly correlated with perceived wealth status(F=12.529, p<.001), relationship with the patient(F=5.317, p=.002). Depending on Health promoting lifestyle age(F=3.602, p=.009), subjective wealth status(F=7.9427, p<.001), relationship between the patient who has diagnosed(F=3.666, p=.015) shows significant difference. Anxiety level was negatively correlated with health promoting lifestyle: self-realization (r=-0.555, p<.001), interpersonal support(r=-0.409, p<.001), stress management(r=-0.348, p<.001).

Conclusion: These findings suggest that reinforced intervention plan for health promotion lifestyle and tailored nursing interventions should be developed to reduce anxiety and increase of family support for female family members of patient with breast neoplasms.
